Only 36 percent of rural Zambian population has access to an improved water source.

Ride your bike, save lives.

Do you believe that everyone deserves something as simple and crucial for life as clean, safe water? Do you believe a child in Zambia should spend her day in school instead of fetching dirty, diseased water from a pit? Do you believe you can make a difference?

We do.

Nearly 4.8 million people in Zambia have no access to clean, safe water[1]. The dirty water they do have makes them sick. It robs children of hope. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We know that access to clean, safe water changes lives.

When a well is installed for a village, girls return to school. Women begin small businesses. Men are no longer too sick to work. Fields are watered and food supply becomes more reliable. Health returns and children grow up to be productive members of their community. The cycle of poverty is broken. Lives change.

Access to clean, safe water isn’t an end, it’s a means.

We need your help. The lack of adequate water sources and sanitation facilities has created serious health risks for Zambia, resulting in lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality, and high rates of preventable disease transmission. Additionally, water and sanitation issues severely impact those suffering from HIV/AIDS because of their compromised immune systems.

Join us for Thirst on Saturday July 21, 2012, as we ride in the 38th Annual Holland Hundred Bicycle Tour, hosted by the Macatawa Cycling Club to raise the funds for clean water wells benefiting Living Water International: Zambia. The ride features a scenic ride through West Michigan farmland, orchards, vineyards and along the Lake Michigan lakeshore.
