Should I re-direct my normal giving (tithes/offerings) to THRIVE?
No, your tithes and offerings are depended on for two very important purposes. First, 25% of Engedi’s budgeted income is allocated towards supporting the missional work Engedi does in Holland and internationally. Second, 75% of Engedi’s general giving is used to support Engedi’s operating budget. In other words, general giving keeps the missionaries in the field and the lights on at home.
Should I make a commitment to THRIVE if I am trying to aggressively pay off debt?
Great question. First, aggressively paying off debt is an important and significant spiritual commitment. In fact, many have found that paying off debt has allowed them to give money away at levels they previously were unable to do. That said, while paying off debt is a great thing, that money is still being entirely directed toward purchases you made. In other words, debt repayment is driven by spending on yourself while sacrificial giving asks what you can give up for God’s use. Clearly there is no easy answer here. Our best advice is to seek the Lord for wisdom and then follow what He says by faith.
How do I let Engedi know of my commitment?
Fill out a commitment card and turn it in at the worship gathering on Sunday, May 21. Commitment cards are available at the Info Desk.
Can I give to THRIVE electronically?
Yes, there are several online options available.
Can I change my commitment at a later date?
Yes, you may increase or decrease your commitment at any time.
HOW DOES THRIVE AFFECT ENGEDI’S BUILDING DEBT?
Currently Engedi has $680,000 of building debt. By all accounts this is a very manageable debt load for a church of our size and income. Our plan is to be debt-free in four years. Because no long-term debt will be used for THRIVE, it will not impede our ability to pay down debt at all. In fact, by creating greater capacity at both campuses it may even generate more resources for paying off debt!
DO WE ALREADY HAVE MONEY ON HAND FOR THRIVE?
Yes, over the last two years we have saved $200,000 for replacing the parking lot. That effectively brings the THRIVE goal down from $1.1 million to $900,000.
HOW MUCH MONEY WILL BE SAVED BY DOING THESE PROJECTS AT THE SAME TIME?
We will reduce the $1.1 million budget by as much as $50,000 by doing these projects at one time.
What if THRIVE doesn’t reach its financial goal?
It has been Engedi’s experience over the years that whenever God calls us to step out by faith, he has provided what we need to do so. However, should we not reach our financial goal, we will evaluate the amount of the shortage and assess its impact on our plans.
If I have a question about THRIVE, who do I ask?
